This week our theme was “Halloween”.  We learned about the letter Jj and the numbers 1 and 2.  We made a glitter bat and spider hands as well.  On Wed. & Thurs. we had our Halloween Party!  The children helped me scoop out and carve a pumpkin, we played games and went trick-or-treat in the classroom! 

Next week our theme will be “Nighttime”.  We will be talking about things that we do at night and learn a little bit about outer space.  The children will make a rocket, an owl and a classroom book about nighttime activities.  On Wednesday/Thursday we will have pajama day in pre-k (November 6^th & 7^th).  Our letter for the week will be Kk and we will learn about the numbers 3 and 4.

*Pajama Day: Your child is invited to wear pajamas and slippers in school on Wed., November 6^th OR Thurs., November 7^th.

*Early Release: Tuesday, November 5^th.  Please send a note if your child should go somewhere other than their normal drop off point.

*FBI Bowling Event: Friday, November 15^th (for those that signed up).

*No School: (Thanksgiving Vacation) November 27^th – 29^th

Hibernation & Migration

This week our theme is “Hibernation & Migration”.  The children will make raccoons, turtles and Canadian geese.  We will talk about many different animals and learned what hibernation & migration mean.

During the next 2 weeks our theme will be “Halloween”.  We will make jack-o-lantern windsocks, ghost feet, pumpkins, glitter bats, a painting with cookie cutters, & spider hands.  We will continue to work on name printing, matching, cutting and counting.  Our letters will be Mm & Jj and we will begin to work on number recognition and number printing.  We will celebrate Halloween on Oct. 30^th/31^st so please remember to send a costume to school with your child that day.  You are also welcome to send a wrapped treat for your child to hand out when we go “trick-or-treating” in our classroom.  There are currently 20 children in the Mon/Wed class & 19 in the Tues/Thurs class (with no known allergies).

*Early Education Reading Reward Books: Each month I will provide your child with a book to keep.  This book should be added to your child’s library and will help build their love of reading!  These books will have a white sticker on the back indicating that they are a “Reading Reward” book so you know they are yours to keep.  You should have already received one of these books last week! J

*Pumpkins: If you have a pumpkin you would like to donate to our classroom please feel free to drop it off before or after school.  We will carve a pumpkin at our Halloween party later this month!

*Please make sure you are sending your child to school with hats, mittens and warm coats as the weather gets cooler.  Remember that we play outside three times a day.

Fire Safety

This week our theme was “Fire Safety”.  We made a fire safety book, painted a Dalmatian, made an emergency fire scene and talked about what to do incase of a fire.  The Stetsonville Fire Chief also came to visit us and talked to the children about the tools firemen use and what to do in an emergency.  We got to see the fire engine and learned how to STOP, DROP & ROLL!  Our letter for the week was Ff. 

 

Next week our theme will be “Fall & Leaves’.  The children will be making a watercolor leaf, acorn, leaf booklet, fall trees and a pumpkin book.  The children will also bring home a fall memory game, which they can make & play with you!  We will even make a page for our first classroom book called Having Fun In Fall.  We will continue to work on shapes, colors, matching and counting.  Our letter for the week will be Ll.

 Reminders & Updates:                                

*P/T Conferences: Mon., Oct 14^th -please return your confirmation slip!  Each conference is only 10 minutes long as I have a lot of families to meet with; please remember to be on time.  You child need not attend the conference with you. 

*There will be a ‘Giving Tree’ set up for our classroom at conferences. Please feel free to choose an apple from the tree and send the item to school with your child if you can.  This is a way to help provide the children with some of those “extra” materials needed for projects.

*Family Ghost Projects: Due Oct. 9^th or 10^th.

*If you have a pumpkin you would like to donate to our classroom please bring it in any time before our party at the end of the month.

*Pumpkin Carving FBI Event: permission slips due Oct. 7^th or 8^th

*Child Development Day: There is no class for Pre-K on Thursday, Oct. 17^thas I have to work at CDD.
