Week of 5-31-11

Well this is it, our last classroom newsletter for the school year!  It has really gone by fast but I’ve truly enjoyed everyday I got to spend with your child.  I want to thank everyone for all the extra work they did at home.  I know we couldn’t have the consistence they we used to have with the half day model but you certainly helped make the full day model work!  You should be very proud of your child and all that they have accomplished this year!

We had another short week with no school on Monday.  On Tuesday I took the children on a bug hunt in the SES school forest behind the building.  Be sure to ask your child what kinds of bugs we found!  On Wednesday & Thursday we enjoyed our end of the year celebration by walking to the Medford Park where we got to play and eat a picnic lunch!

In the morning on the 6^th & 7^th we will take our trip to the school forest.  Please dress your child accordingly and remember to send a backpack to school with your child each day as we continue to clean up and send things home.  We will use our last day together to say goodbye, clean our classroom and have some fun!

 Reminders & Updates:                                       *School Forest:  We will take a trip to the School Forest on June6^th & 7^th.  Please dress your child for the woods that day includingsocks, tennis shoes, long pants, baseball caps, etc…  It would alsobe a good idea to spray your child with bug spray before school that day.  *Last Day of Class: June 8^th OR 9^th.  School will be dismissed 2 hours early on the 9^th so please plan accordingly.

Week Of 5-23-11

This week our theme was ‘Butterflies & Caterpillars’.  The children made a patterned caterpillar, created a butterfly book, completed a butterfly’s life cycle and painted a butterfly.  We also went to visit the Kindergarten classrooms in preparation for next year.

Next week our theme will be ‘Bugs & Frogs’.  (Remember there is no school on Monday due to Memorial Day).  On Tuesday we will take a hike in the SES forest and go on a bug hunt (weather permitting) so please dress your child for a hike in the woods.  The children will be making a frog, a paint blot bug and playing a bug # matching game.  On Wednesday & Thursday we will have an ‘End of the Year’ celebration for all of the pre-k students at SES & MAES.  We will all meet at MAES and walk to the Medford City Park where the children will be able to play and enjoy a picnic lunch!  (Our cooks will pack the lunches at school).

Week Of 5-16-11

 This week our theme was the ‘Farm’.  We tore paper to make a cow, used beans to make a barn and drew pictures to create My Silly Animal Book.  On Monday and Tuesday we took a field trip to the farm.  The FFA students told us all about farm life.  We got to pet the cows/calves and then went into the parlor to learn how to milk cows.  We saw the milk house, ate a dairy snack and got to play in a huge sandbox!  We had a great time!

*Early Release: Thursday, May 19^th 
*Our last FBI event will be a petting zoo at MAES on Friday,May 20^th. *Kindergarten Visit: On May 25^th & 26^th we will be visiting the Kindergarten classrooms.  We will meet the teachers and have a chance to ask questions.  The kindergarten kids will show us around the room in preparation for next year.

Week of May 9th

This week our theme continued to be ‘Oceans’.  We made a starfish using Cheerios and an ocean photo album, which was made by ‘scuba diving’ with a friend around the classroom!  We also created a giant fish book and a classroom book about our favorite ocean animal.  We continued to work on fine motor skills as the children used beads to create their very own bracelet.  We also reviewed letters and numbers this week.

Next week our theme will be the ‘Farm’.  We will be tearing paper to make a cow, using beans to make a barn and drawing pictures to create My Silly Animal Book.  On Monday and Tuesday we will be taking a field trip to the farm.  We will split into smaller groups and tour the farm with high school FFA students who will teach us all about the life of a farmer!  Please remember to wear old clothes and dress for the weather, as we will be outside for most of the morning.

*Please remember that Thursday is an Early Release day so send a note if your child needs to go somewhere other then their normal drop off point.

Week Of 5-2-11

 This week our theme was ‘Oceans & Mother’s Day’.  We made a scuba diver & jellyfish.  We continued to work at finishing up our testing before the end of the school year.  On Wednesday & Thursday the Taylor County Health Dept finished our final round of fluoride varnishes.  We also had help from the high school FFA students in making a gift for Mother’s Day…we hope you like it!
