Dinosaurs (Week 1)


This week our theme was ‘Dinosaurs’.  The children made dinosaur masks and a big dinosaur out of paper plates which they then painted with watercolors.  We also made our Valentine’s Day cardholders and focused on the letter Dd & numbers 7 and 8.
 Next week our theme will continue to be ‘Dinosaurs’.  On Wednesday and Thursday we will enjoy our field trip to the Broadway Theater to see Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs!  We will also make a classroom book about dinosaurs and create dinosaur skeletons.  During our center time we will practice fine motor skills, number recognition and shapes.  We will review the numbers 9 & 10 and our letter for the week will be Oo.

       *Movie Theater Fieldtrip: Feb. 5th OR 6th.  Your child should
       have returned their envelope containing $3.00 for snack
       (popcorn & soda).
*Valentine’s Day Party: Feb. 12th OR Feb. 13th.

Games & Sportsmanship

This week our theme was ‘Games & Sportsmanship’.  The focus of our week was on taking turns, sharing, participating and being a good sport.  Many of our games incorporated academic skills such as counting, colors, shapes, matching, etc…  To finish our week the second grade classes came in to play games with us!  Our letter for the week was Gg and we reviewed the numbers 5 & 6.

Next week our theme will be ‘Dinosaurs’.  We will be making dinosaur masks and dotted dinosaurs.  The children will also watercolor dinosaurs made out of paper plates and participate in centers to learn about sorting, graphing and patterning. We will focus on the letter Dd and review the numbers 7 & 8.

       *No School: Jan 24th (Inservice)
*Movie Theater Field Trip: Wednesday, Feb. 5th OR Thursday, Feb. 6th.  Your child will need to bring $3.00 for snack (popcorn & soda) due by Jan. 29th or 30th.
*Report cards will be sent home at the end of this month.  It will be beneficial to your child if you take time to practice any of the skills they still struggle with at home as well.

*Early Release Day: Feb. 25th.

Snowmen & Snow

This week our theme was ‘Snowmen & Snow’.  The children made snowmen & snowflakes.  We worked together with a partner to create a page for our classroom book called We Made A Snowman!  We also worked on patterning, counting, 1:1 correspondence (touching & counting each object) and numerical order.  Our letter for the week was Ss and we reviewed the numbers 3 & 4.

Next week our theme will be ‘Games & Sportsmanship’.  The focus of our week will be on taking turns, sharing, staying focused/involved and being a good sport.  It would be a great idea to play games at home with your child and practice these skills as well.  Many of our games also incorporate academic skills such as counting, colors, matching, etc… To finish our week the second grade classes will come in to play games with us!  Our letter for the week will be Gg and we will review the numbers 5 & 6.

*FBI Ice Skating Event: Friday, January 17th @ the Simek Center.
*Just a quick reminder that when the temperature is above zero the children go outside for recess.  Continue to bundle them up with warm winter clothing suitable for playing outside in the snow.  We want them to be warm and have fun!

Winter Clothing

This week our theme was ‘Winter Clothing’.  It was another short week due to the cold weather but we used our winter clothing to work on sorting, matching, classifying, graphing, colors and counting!  Our letter for the week was Ww and we reviewed the numbers 1 & 2.
